Are you carrying memories from the job that won’t turn off when the shift ends? Do you wake up tense, replaying scenes others will never understand? Many who serve in high-trauma professions—military, law enforcement, firefighters, ER staff, and dispatchers—learn to push through pain while becoming increasingly disconnected at home. Some have also experienced betrayal or sexual trauma while trying to stay strong for everyone else. Veterans sometimes face another battle after service, missing the structure, brotherhood, and sense of purpose the military once provided. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. I provide a direct, respectful space to work through it, yet I will challenge you. I’m not the type to simply validate everything just to make you feel better; growth requires honesty and accountability. I’m Franklyn Harris, a U.S. Army Veteran and graduate student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grandview University, completing my internship under the supervision of William Walker. I integrate existential perspectives with skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
